Question About Alpine Car Amplifier 3553
user manual...

looking for a user manual, or hook up diagrams, or tips on hooking up an Alpine 3553 car amp. Can't use it to full potential unless i know how to hook it up right. Bridging, etc........

4 Below is a link with the details of your specific Amplifier. Wiring should be straught forward, but just in case you have never done it before, I shall assume you will be using it to run 2 standard speakers (best to use the front speakers), and a Subwoofer. Now, I have one similar, and shall use it as a reference to yours, as i believe the controls are practically the same. First. You will need a Power wire (fused near the battery) to connect to the +12V on the amp. DO NOT CONNECT IT TO THE BATTERY UNTIL FINISHED. You will need an Earth wire (Same size as the power wire) to connect to the GND on the amp. The last wire in that section is the REM. This is a wire that goes to your stereo and connects to AMP REM (or Ant if you dont have the Amp Rem wire). This wire will typically be Blue with a white stripe, or just blue (if using Ant). You will also need 2 sets of RCA leads to go between the AMP, and the Stereo. Connect one of these between FRONT of the stereo, and CH 1&2 of the AMP. Connect the other between SUB of the stereo, and CH3&4 of the Amp. So far so good? Next the speaker wiring. Run 2 speaker wires from CH1 & 2 on the AMP (noting polarity) to the stereo, but do not connect them yet. disconnect the front speaker wires FROM the stereo (noting polarity), and replace them with the wires from the AMP. The unconnected speaker wires SHOULD be the ones attached to your stereo. Tape them up individually to prevent sparks, and short crcuits. You can now replace your stero to its original place. The only thing left is the SUB. connect the + of your subwwofer speaker wire to CH4 + on the AMP, anc connect the - of your subwoofer speaker wire to CH3 - on the AMP. connect the other end of this wire to your subwoofer box. All connections are now done. (excluding connecting to the battery). Now, the settings..... You should see INPUT MODE ofr each Ch1&2 and for CH3&4. Both these should be set to ST (Stereo mode. L+R = Mono) On the AMP you should see FILTER 1&2. this should be set to HP (which means High Pass - less Bass). You should also see FILTER 3&4. This should be set to LP (which means Low Pass - Less Top). The Xover (if available) should be set to around 80hz. This is a good starting point. The gains should be set to minimum to start. ok, now connect your main power wire to the battery, and turn on the stereo. First check..... The light on your AMP should start orange, then go green. turn your stereo up until the REAR speakers are at a good volume. Now turn up the GAIN on the AMP of CH1&2, until the FRONT speakers are a good volume in relation to the REAR speakers. Next turn up the gain on the AMP of CH3&4 until the SUBWOOFER is a good vlume in relation to the FRONT & REAR speakers. All done. Any questions, just ask. Best of luck.

3 I have a sub box with two woofers. Is it possible to wire them both on the 3rd channel (in series ?) ?? Thanks for your help, very much appreciated.

3 Oh yeah, there is one other alternative. If the subs are 4 ohm, you could just run them in stereo. So treat them as normal speakers and connect one to CH3, and one to CH4. Make sure the subs are in seperate enclosures (ie, not one BIG empty box with 2 holes for subs), but effectively 2 boxes in one.

0 Ok, that really depends on the Ohms of your subs. For example, a tyical Sub is 4ohms (should be written on the back of the sub). If this is the case, then the amp you have will only run the subs (one on CH3&4 as described earlier, and one on CH1&2). Then you will have to continue to run the front speakers from the stereo, and chang the settings on the AMP to the same as CH3&4. IF you have for esample 2ohm subs, then you can join them together in SERIES, to create a virtual 4ohm sub, and follwo previous instructions. If the subs are DUAL 4 or DUAL 2 then that becomes a bit more complicated to explain. Aside from that, did everything else make sense to you?

0 Thank you so much. It all makes perfect sense. I have 2 separate boxes thats why I asked. It's all hooked up with 1 woofer and it sounds great !! I was just thinking how to get more bang out of it. It's installed in a crew cab pickup which has lots of space to fill with sound. Thanks again for all the detailed info !!

0 The best setup for your system would be just the one sub, and amplify the front speakers. Much better imaging, better control of sound, and more volume. Trust me. Enjoy.
