When I removed one side of my speaker connections ...

When I removed one side of my speaker connections to test another smaller speaker When I reconnected my original speaker i noticed a change in the sound and both of my speakers start "jumping" Really bad and sound terrible.Is this a connection problem or possible the speaker?
