Defect Policy
Philipsstrivestodeliverthehighestquality
products.Weusesomeoftheindustry'smost
advancedmanufacturingprocessesandpractice
stringentqualitycontrol.However,pixelor
subpixeldefectsontheTFTMonitorpanels
usedinflatpanelmonitorsaresometimes
unavoidable.Nomanufacturercanguarantee
thatallpanelswillbefreefrompixeldefects,
butPhilipsguaranteesthatanymonitorwithan
unacceptablenumberofdefectswillberepaired
orreplacedunderwarranty.Thisnoticeexplains
thedifferenttypesofpixeldefectsanddefines
acceptabledefectlevelsforeachtype.Inorder
toqualifyforrepairorreplacementunder
warranty,thenumberofpixeldefectsonaTFT
Monitorpanelmustexceedtheseacceptable
levels.Forexample,nomorethan0.0004%of
thesubpixelsonamonitormaybedefective.
Furthermore,Philipssetsevenhigherquality
standardsforcertaintypesorcombinations
ofpixeldefectsthataremorenoticeablethan
others.Thispolicyisvalidworldwide.

Pixels and Sub pixels
Apixel,orpictureelement,iscomposedof
threesubpixelsintheprimarycolorsofred,
greenandblue.Manypixelstogetherforman
image.Whenallsubpixelsofapixelarelit,the
threecoloredsubpixelstogetherappearasa
singlewhitepixel.Whenallaredark,thethree
coloredsubpixelstogetherappearasasingle
blackpixel.Othercombinationsoflitanddark
subpixelsappearassinglepixelsofothercolors.

asub-pixelthatstandsoutonthescreenwhen
themonitordisplaysadarkpattern.Thereare
thetypesofbrightdotdefects.
