Instructions specific to hazardous area installations
General:
1. Installation of this equipment shall be carried out by suitably trained personnel, in accordance with the applicable
code of practice.
2. The apparatus electronics is only certified for use in ambient temperatures in the range of -40ºC to +85ºC for T4. It
should not be used outside this range.
3. If the equipment is likely to come into contact with aggressive substances, it is the responsibility of the user to take
suitable precautions that prevent it from being adversely affected, thus ensuring that the type of protection is not
compromised.
Aggressive Substances
- e.g. acidic liquids or gases that may attack metals or solvents that may affect
polymeric materials.
Suitable Precautions
- e.g. regular checks as part of routine inspections or establishing from the
material's data sheet that it is resistant to specific chemicals.
4. Special conditions for safe use:
(a) If the enclosure is made of an alloy or plastic material, the following precautions must be observed:
(i) The metallic alloy used for the enclosure material may be at the accessible surface of this equipment; in the
event of rare accidents, ignition sources due to impact and friction sparks could occur. This shall be
considered when the Electropulse is being installed in locations that specifically require group II, category
1G equipment.
(ii) Under certain extreme circumstances, the non-metallic parts incorporated in the enclosure of the
Electropulse may generate an ignition-capable level of electrostatic charge. Therefore, when they are used
for applications that specifically require group II, category 1 equipment, the Electropulse shall not be
installed in a location where the external conditions are conducive to the build-up of electrostatic charge on
such surfaces. Additionally, the Electropulse shall only be cleaned with a damp cloth.
Sensors:
Model numbers covered: ***S*U*H*** ('*' indicates options in construction, function and materials.)
The following instructions apply to equipment covered by certificate number TRL 03ATEX21023X:
5. The equipment may be used with flammable gases and vapours with apparatus groups IIA, IIB & IIC, and with
temperature classes T1, T2, T3, T4 & T5.
Note: The enclosure may be at the higher of the process or ambient
temperature
6. The equipment is not intended to be repaired by the user and is to be replaced by an equivalent certified unit.
Repairs should only be carried out by the manufacturer or approved repairer.
7. The cable screen may have been internally connected to the metal housing of the equipment.
8. Technical Data:
(a) Materials of construction: Refer to Part numbering identification chart.
(b) Coding: II 1 G,
EEx ia IIC T4 (-40°C ≤ Ta ≤ +85°C)
T5 (-40°C ≤ Ta ≤ +40°C)
(c) Electrical:
Input parameters: Ui: +16.27V, Ii: 205mA, Pi: 0.63W, Ci: 8nF, Li: 0µH.
(d) Pressure: Must not exceed the rating of the coupling/flange fitted.
9. Special conditions for safe use:
(a) The sensor may not meet the requirements of EN50020: 2002 clause 6.4.12 (Isolation of circuits from earth or
frame). Therefore the sensor shall only be connected via a galvanically isolated source, or an adjacent amplifier
as described below.
(b) The sensor when used in ATEX applications shall only be connected to an Adjacent Amplifier certified under EC
type examination certificate TRL03ATEX21033X or TRL03ATEX21035X.
(c) The sensor shall be installed such that it shall not exceed the Class 3M8/4M8 level of vibration as defined by
IEC60721.
