Configuring Dial–Up Networking On Client PC (Windows 98)
Follow the Modem manufacturer's instruction when installing the modem to the
INDeX CCM Client PC with Windows 98 Operating System.
With Dial-Up Networking, you can gain access to shared information on another
computer, even if your computer is not on a network. The computer you are dialing
in to must be set up as a network server for you to use its shared resources.
For example, if you have a computer at home, you can dial in and connect to your
work computer and network through a network server. Both your home computer
and the network server must have modems installed.
Before commencing with the installation process, ensure no other applications are
currently running, as the Windows 98 requires a reboot of the PC at the end of this
installation.
1. Insert the Windows 98 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2. From the Windows 98 Automenu, click Add/Remove Software.
3. With Communications highlighted, click Details.
4. In the list of Components, tick Dial-Up Networking.
5. Click OK.
6. From the Add/Remove Programs Properties screen, click Apply, and then click
OK.
Adding a New Connection
If you have already set up one or more Dial-Up connections, you can double-click
Make New Connection to create a new connection. To dial a connection that you
have already set up, double-click its icon in the Dial-Up Networking window.
After you have connected to another computer, you can see files and folders on that
computer only if they are shared.
If you do not see a Dial-Up Networking folder in My Computer, then it is not
installed. To find out how to install it, see "Configuring Dial–Up Networking On
Client PC (Windows 98)" on page 120.
1. From the Windows 98 desktop, double click My Computer and then double click
Dial-up Networking,
2. Click Next, and follow the instructions to install the new connection.
