MAINTENANCE
Brakes
The front and rear brakes are hydraulic disc brakes, activated by
moving the single brake lever toward the handlebar. These brakes are
self-adjusting.
The following ch ecks are recommended to keep the brake system in
good operating condition. Check more often if brakes are used heavily
under normal operation.
WARNING
Never s tore or use a partial bottle of brake fluid. Brake fluid is
hygroscopic, meaning it r apidly absorbs moisture f rom the air.
The m oisture causes the boiling temperature of the brake fluid to
drop, which can lead to early brake f ade and the possibility o f
accident or severe injury. After opening a bottle of brake fluid,
always dis card any unus ed portion.
1. Always keep brake fluid at an adequate level (see page 30).
WARNING
An over-full m aster cylinder may cause brake drag or brake
lock-up, whic h could result in serious injury or death. Maintain
brake fluid at the recommended lev el. Do not ov erfill.
NOTE: Under normal oper ation, the diaphragm extends into the
reservoir as fluid level drops. If the fluid level is low and the
diaphragm is not extended, a leak is likely and the diaphragm
should be replaced. Always fill the reservoir as needed
whenever the cover is loosened or r emoved to ensure proper
diaphragm oper ation. Use Polaris DOT 4 brake fluid. Do not
overfill.
