Digital radio/
DAB – Digital Audio Broadcasting
Digital radio standard that, in contrast to analog
radio signals, makes it possible to transmit a great
deal of data. In addition to audio signals and
texts, it is also possible to transmit program-
associated data in the form of images and HTML
pages. Even moving images are possible. With
digital radio, many familiar programs are now
available in CD quality, along with an entire spec-
trum of completely new stations.
Interference
Should there ever be any problem in the trans-
mission of a digital signal, it is usually only a small
part of the information that gets lost. And the
listener won’t even notice: the digital correction
process simply recreates the original signals. This
guarantees interference-free listening enjoyment
every time.
Reception convenience
Digital radio programs are transmitted over just
one frequency. This means that, once you have
tuned into a program, you will be able to listen to
it anywhere within reception range without hav-
ing to adjust your set.
Versatility
Even though digital radio is bound to replace FM as
the radio standard sooner or later, the Blaupunkt
digital radios all still include an FM receiver as
well.
Additional reception
In the future, digital radio will also be able to re-
ceive such additional multimedia information as
telematics services, information on song titles,
weather reports and MP3/WMA fi les.
Sound quality
Digital radio provides the same excellent sound
quality as a music CD, even at top speed on the
motorway.
Future standard
It is already possible to pick up digital radio almost
everywhere in Germany. Full coverage is expected
to be achieved by 2004. And since digital radio is
a European standard, it can already be received
in many European countries.
Program diversity
Digital radio doesn’t mean you have to make do
with fewer programs. In Germany, there are al-
ready more than 150 digital radio programs on
air –
and that number is growing.
Direct Aux input
A world’s fi rst from Blaupunkt. An additional
input to an external amplifi er for direct connec-
tion of portable players or navigation systems if
the car radio is not equipped with an additional
Aux input. The following amplifi ers are currently
equipped with this feature: GTA 280, GTA 480,
THA 275 PnP, THA 475 PnP and THA 555 PnP.
Display-Out
Connection option for existing external displays
in the car via an optional interface (Bremen MP76
only).
DMB –
Digital Multimedia Broadcasting

DMS – Disk Management System
The Disk Management System makes it possible
to connect a Blaupunkt CD changer and operate
it using the car radio keypad.
DNC – Dynamic Noise Covering
DSAmax
DSAmax – Digital Sound Adjustment
DEQmax / DEQmaxEX / DSAmax
Dual voice coil
In a dual voice coil, the two lengths of wire wound
around the same former can be driven separately.
This provides you with greater fl exibility in the
confi guration of your system. In a parallel hook-up
(= half the impedance), the amplifi er connected
is able to deliver double the performance at best.
For subwoofers that require a lot of power, each
voice coil can be wired to a separate amplifi er
channel.
DVD
Abbreviation of Digital Versatile Disc. Universal
storage medium offered in a diverse range of for-
mats (e.g. DVD video, DVD audio, DVD+R/RW,
DVD-R/RW and DVD navigation data)
Dynamization, dynamic route guidance
Routes are computed with permanent coordina-
tion with TMC reports. If a time advantage results
from using an alternative route, then the system
automatically (dynamically) guides the driver
over this route.
EON
Enhanced Other Networks.
RDS
Equalizer
Sound control, which adapts the frequency re-
sponse on several frequency bands to accom-
mo
date less-than-perfect acostic conditions and
per
sonal preferences.
DEQmax / DEQmaxEX / DSAmax
EXP technology
EXP stands for “Extended Pole Piece”, i.e. the pole
piece of the speaker magnet is extended to allow
greater linear excursion for the cone/voice coil
while simultaneously reducing distortion.
Fader
Regulates the volume between the front and rear
stereo channels.
Fiberglass Cone
The cones used in woofers and mid-range speak-
ers must combine stiffness and minimal weight
for the best linear behavior. The Blaupunkt fi ber-
glass cone offers particularly pleasing resonance
characteristics for a very even frequency re-
sponse.

GPS – Global Positioning System
More than 25 satellites orbit the Earth. On the
basis of the location data they transmit constant-
ly, it is possible to use a trigonometric formula to
determine the location of a vehicle, for example,
anywhere on the Earth’s surface.
Gyroscope
Magnetically independent, electronic gyroscopic
compass for the exact measurement of angles.
Standard in airplane, ship and car navigation sys-
tems.
Hands-free operation
You can use the microphone and speakers in the
car to place telephone calls without taking your
hands off the wheel.
Head unit
A term commonly used in the car hi-fi industry for
a car radio in complex systems.
High-level input
Additional input on a power amplifi er that can be
directly connected with the speaker outputs of
the car radio.
High-pass
Active frequency crossover to control subwoofer/
satellite speaker systems, whereby the music
signal is faded out below a selected frequency.
High-power output stage
Car radio output stage with 22–26 watts RMS
(acc. to DIN 45 324) or 45–50 watts per channel
of max. power, created by special high-power
transistors.
ID 3 tags
Information on artist, album, song, genre, etc. that
can be stored with every MP3/WMA fi le. This in-
formation can be shown in the car radio display
(comparable to CD-Text).
Installation kit
Mechanical adaptation of DIN car radios or speak-
ers to different-sized, vehicle-specifi c installa-
tion locations. Blaupunkt offers a comprehensive
program with the perfect solution for each fi tting
problem.
Integrated Magnet System
To provide for greater stability, the speaker’s
driver magnet is not screwed onto the back of the
basket as usual, but rather integrated into the
basket. This affords advantages not only for high-
power-handling subwoofers, it also increases
overall reliability.
IPP (Injected Polypropylene) cone
The IPP cone developed by Blaupunkt is a mechan-
ically very stiff cone. With the addition of a syn-
thetic material to the conventional PP cone, the
injected IPP cone becomes noticeably stiffer and
produces a louder, more linear and precise sound
in the entire frequency response range. The IPP
cone is used in all coaxial, triaxial and component
systems in the GT series and TH series.
IR remote control
A handheld or steering-wheel mounted remote
control unit whose signal is transmitted in the in-
visible infrared range. Products that are mounted
on the steering wheel have been certifi ed by the
German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV).
ISO connection technology
Mechanical connection standard commonly used
in the car hi-fi industry in which all of the elec-
trical connections are combined into several
blocks. The contact allocation can vary electri-
cally depending on the radio or car manufacturer
so that specifi c adapter cables are required even
though the plugs look identical.
Loudness
X-Bass
Low-pass
Active frequency crossover to control subwoofer
systems, whereby the music signal is faded out
above a selected frequency.
Sub-X-Over, Sub-Out
Map Matching
Vehicle position determined by comparing GPS
locating and all sensor data with the digital navi-
gation CD
Menu
With the help of “Menu”, the basic settings of the
car radio or the navigation system can be adapted
to vehicle specifi cs, individual preferences, and
an eventually already existing hi-fi system.
MMC – MultimediaCard/SD –
Secure Digital Card
Memory cards for multimedia data, e.g., MP3/WMA
music fi les and navigation data.

1. The GPS system makes the initial rough estimate of
the vehicle location.
2. After just a few meters, the road the vehicle is
traveling on can be identified. Any turns are recorded
by the gyroscope.
3. Now the vehicle position has been determined
accurately and is updated constantly, whereby
the system compares all the sensor data with the
information on the digital map.
